Our History

Agate Asphalt was formed in 2014 by Clayton Hallum. The Hallum family's asphalt experience dates back to the 1930's down in the Central Valley of California. The trade was passed down through generations and Clayton learned the business through his father working the summer months through his schooling years. After graduating from Central Washington University in 2007, Clayton began his construction career by working on Bainbridge Island for a local contractor who specialized in building Custom homes. At the same time, Clayton started a side business called New-Line Striping & Sealcoating which he ran until 2013 along side his construction job.

Hallum's direction changed in 2013 after losing a family member and decided that he wanted to get back to what he loved doing which was paving and operating equipment. We expanded our operations and formed a separate company called Agate Asphalt. Without knowing how to run a paving machine, Agate purchased their first paver from Colorado and had their first paving job lined up. After being successful with their first driveway, the rest was history. Over the years, Agate's team grew and Agate quickly became a company with a reputation for doing excellent work and providing customer service that was unmatched in the industry.

We look to hire people that will make a difference in the community and will leave a lasting impression for our customers. Between office and field personnel, we employ roughly 30 individuals who all share the common goal of performing at our highest abilities and treating every customer with the care and respect that they deserve.

Agate Asphalt & New-Line are two companies that work hand-in-hand together and allow us to take care of our customers completely.
